Xiao-Ting Pan is the first woman to earn her place in the finals of the Generationpool.com Women's Event today.
Pan scored a 7-4 win over Anna Kostanian in a match that was closer than the score indicated.
Pan took an early 3-1 lead, but Kostanian came back to tie the match at 4-4. Pan broke dry in the ninth rack, but Kostanian opted for a push out. After a 10-second warning from tournament director Steve Tipton, Kostanian addressed the shot and just prior to stroking the cue ball, Tipton called the shot clock violation foul. Pan carefully ran that rack for a 5-4 lead.
Kostanian had the break in the 10th rack and made 2 balls, but watched in horror as her cue ball made it's way up table and scratched in the corner pocket. Pan ran that rack to get to the hill at 6-4.
A weak safety after the break by Pan in rack eleven left Kostanian with one more chance in the match. Kostanian ran down to the seven ball, but rolled too far for proper shape on the ball. A miss on the seven left Pan tough, but she came with a great rail first shot to make the seven and she proceeded to run out for the 7-4 win.
Pan will now wait for the winner of tonight's match between Ga-Young Kim and Jasmin Ouschan.
