WPBL Partners With ESPN3

The World Professional Billiard League will partner with ESPN3 to broadcast their semi-finals February 12th and 13th and their Championship Match February 15th live from the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas. The agreement allows ESPN3 to broadcast to the US market.

ESPN3 is an online streaming service who began operations in 2005 broadcasting an array of live and pre-recorded sporting events.  Owned by the Disney Co. and part of the ESPN family, ESPN3 has the potential US viewership of 85 million households.

As a result of the agreement between the WPBL and ESPN3, those living in the US will be able to watch the semi-finals and finals live via ESPN3. In addition, fans living in the US who purchased the WPBL playoff package can still view online through the WPBL website. This agreement does not affect those living outside of the US who will continue to view all PPV matches on the WPBL website.

Larry Chiborak President and CEO of the WPBL was elated with the agreement stating “It is unfortunate that major networks carry very few cue sport events in the US….we see this agreement as a sign for the future exposure of the sport….we ask that the fans support billiards by watching the live stream…In order for the network to consider additional coverage of any pool events on their parent company ESPN, it is essential that we garner a substantial viewership….this will not just help the WPBL but all billiards events being considered for distribution.”
