After one day at the WPBA Regional Tour Championship, the pressure will surely ratchet up on day two.
Sixty three WPBA hopefuls began their quest for a coveted tour card at Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower California, and they are nearing the end of phase one. Phase one saw eight groups of eight players competing in a round robin format to determine the top thirty two players that will progress into phase two today.
There are still two rounds of phase one play today, but there are already players who know their phase one fates. Lisa Marr, Shu-Han Chang, Amy Chen, Amanda Lampert, Mary Rakin, Liz Lovely, Brianna Miller and Susan Williams all look to have booked their places in phase two.
But there are players in every group who start the day knowing that they have to perform well at the end of phase two if they want to have any hopes of competing in phase two.
After phase one is completed, the final thirty two players will be redrawn into four round robin groups of eight players. Those groups will then play phase two to determine the final eight players for phase three. Phase three will be a single elimination bracket with the final winner receiving paid entry into each WPBA event this year. All eight of the phase three players will earn their WPBA tour cards, as well as a 9th player who will be determined based on phase two stats.
