June 27, 2008 – Michigan City, Indiana: We're down to the final 24 players at the WPBA Great Lakes Classic.
The Final 8 on the winner's side are as follows: Allison Fisher, Anna Kostanian, Jeanette Lee, Karen Corr, Xiao-Ting Pan, Kelly Fisher, Sarah Ellerby and Ga-Young Kim.
Allison's match with Vivian Villarreal in the 3rd round looked to be a nail biter at 6-6, but she took off down the home stretch with two consecutive 9-ball combos to go up 8-6. Vivian won another game, but had a tough shot in the 16th game which she missed, allowing Allison to run out.
Anna Kostanian continues her good year with wins over Megan Minerich, Ewa Laurance and Dawn Hopkins. Jeanette Lee, coming off of surgery last month, is finally feeling her old self and defeated qualifier Susan Williams before winning versus Kim White and the always tough Gerda Hofstatter. Karen Corr, Xiaoting Pan and Sarah Ellerby all had good wins over such players as Jennifer Chen, Debbie Schjodt, Joanne Ashton and Monica Webb. Meanwhile, Ga Young Kim was almost defeated by Sarah Rousey in their 3rd round match up. The score was hill-hill with Ga Young breaking. She made the 6 ball but had no open shot on the 1. After attempting a safe, which was unsuccessful, Sarah made the 1, but missed the two and Ga Young ran out, barely escaping!
On the one loss side, Jasmin Ouschan has rebounded after losing to Korea's Yu Ram Cha. Jasmin's won matches versus Michelle Monk, Melissa Little and Laura Smith. She'll face Monica Webb next. Tiffany Nelson, who also lost her first round match, defeated Morgan Steinman, Ewa Laurance and Liz Ford. She'll face Debbie Schjodt next, who was knocked into the 1 loss side by Kelly Fisher. Kim White will face Jennifer Chen; Kim Shaw vs Sarah Rousey; Janet Atwell will play against Vivian Villarreal; Joanne Ashton and Dawn Hopkins will face off, while Megan Minerich plays Gerda Hofstatter. Rounding out the 24 players is Yu Ram Cha versus Helena Thornfeldt. Yu Ram is making quite an impression here, defeating well known players Jasmin Ouschan and Melissa Herndon.
