Thursday, 06 December 2012 With a fantastic performance, Berk Mehmetcik (TNC) made it to the semi-final of the WPA World 9-Ball Championships. He defeated Joshua Filler (GER) with 9:5.
Filler was undefeated in the competition so far. He was actually the favourite player to win the match. But Mehmetcik seemed to be more focussed. Filler had several slips which Mehmetcik transformed into points for his account. After Filler was trailing 2:5, he fought back and closed the gap to 4:5. Then, in the 10th rack, he forced Mehmetcik to commit a foul. Instead of running out, he tried to bank the 8-ball and missed it. He just played too fast. Maybe it was nervousness, but Mehmetcik accepted the gift and took the rack. From then on, Mehmetcik took the helm and dominated the match. He won 9:5 and will play the semi-final tomorrow morning.
