Matchroom Sport can announce that the Malaysian team slated to compete in the forthcoming PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool have withdrawn from the event citing ‘unforeseen circumstances'.
The duo of Ibrahim bin Amir and Patrick Ooi, who took part in the tournament last year, backed out at the last minute. However, that is great news for Belgium who were first on the reserve list.
The PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool takes place at Outland in Rotterdam, Holland from 25th to 30th September and features 32 teams from 31 countries competing for a US$250,000 prize fund with $60,000 going to the eventual winners.
The Belgian pairing of Noel Bruynooghe and Serge Das, both top 60 players on the Euro Tour rankings, take the direct place of Malaysia in the draw and that means a mouth-watering lowlands clash against the Holland B team of Rico Diks and Alex Lely on the evening of Wednesday 26th.
Commented Rico Diks of Holland B, “I'm very much looking forward to it – even more so now that we are playing Belgium.
“This brings a whole lot more national pride to the confrontation but I'm confident that myself and Alex Lely can emerge victorious.”
Tickets for the World Cup of Pool are still available and can be obtained from www.matchroomsportdvd.com and a host of pool rooms across Holland
