The WPA World 9-Ball Championship has now begun the second stage in Doha, Qatar at the headquarters of the Qatar Billiard and Snooker Federation (QBSF). We are now in the group stages where the eight men in each group play down to the final four of each group and those 64 players will play in the Championship round after a redraw to form a new chart.
Some big names dropped their first matches of the week. Imran Majid fell 9-6 to Martusz Skoneczny, World Champion Thorsten Hohmann lost a close one to his friend Charlie Williams, Ernesto Dominquez was unlucky enough to draw Huijdi See and came to regret it 9-5. His son, Oscar Dominquez, also found a tough draw and lost 9-8 to Marcus Chamat. Defending Champion Daryl Peach lost on the hill to Israel Rota, Efren Reyes never found his gear against Hiatao Liu and fell 9-5, and Ralf Souquet lost 9-6 to recent World Masters Winner Dennis Orcollo.
