Wilson chalks up first regional tour win on Premier Billiards’ Q City 9-Ball Tour

Zach Wilson

He had cashed on the PremierBilliards.com’s Q City 9-Ball Tour only once before, two years ago, at a tour stop in Janet Atwell’s room, Borderline Billiards, in Bristol, TN. This past weekend (Sat., May 13), about an hour southwest of Bristol, Zach Wilson went undefeated to claim his first regional tour title. And he did it, in the end, by defeating one of the tour’s veteran competitors, Thomas Sansone, in the finals. The $250-added event drew 18 entrants to Breaker’s Billiards in Mosheim, TN.

Wilson advanced through the field and arrived for a winners’ side semifinal match against Patrick Kelton, while Keith Roberts squared off against Brady Brazell in the other one. Sansone, at the time, was already at work on the loss side, having been defeated in his opening round of play by Chris McCravey 4-1. Wilson shut Kelton out and was joined in the hot seat match by Roberts, who’d sent Brazell west 4-2. Wilson claimed the hot seat 6-2 over Roberts and waited for Sansone to complete his seven-match, loss-side winning streak to challenge him in the finals.

It was Brazell who picked up Sansone, four matches into his loss-side winning streak, having recently eliminated Denny Demetro 7-4 and Gary Morton 7-2. Kelton drew Dakota Waldroup, who’d defeated Yoshiaki Kanamura 4-3 (Kanamura racing to 5) and, spoiling a Sansone/McCravey rematch, he eliminated McCravey, double hill.

Sansone and Waldroup handed Brazell and Kelton (respectively) their second straight loss; Sansone 7-4 over Brazell and Waldroup chalking up his second straight double-hill win, over Kelton. Waldroup ended up on the wrong side of his third straight double-hill match in the subsequent quarterfinals and Sansone advanced.

Loss-side win #7 for Sansone came against Keith Roberts in those semifinals, 7-2. It proved to be Sansone’s last win. Wilson took the first, and as it turned out, only set of the final 6-4 to claim his first regional tour title.

Tour director Herman Parker thanked Terry Greer and his Breaker’s Billiards staff for their hospitality, as well as title sponsor PremierBilliards.com, BarPoolTables.net, Dirty South Grind Apparel Co., Realty One Group Results, Diamond Brat, AZBilliards.com, Federal Savings Bank Mortgage Division and TKO Custom Cues.

The PremierBilliards.com’s Q City 9-Ball Tour will remain in the Volunteer State through this coming weekend (May 20-21). It moves about a northeast hour away to Janet Atwell’s Borderline Billiards in Bristol, TN where the 4th Annual Brian James Memorial will be held.
