AzBilliards.com has learned that the upcoming Western Canadian Open has 'disassociated' themselves from both the UPA and the WPA/IBC.
Citing lack of support from the players and sponsors, the promoters of the event feel that they have no option other than to drop their association with both organizations for this years event.
While maintaining their support of "the basic tenets of the structure and foundation" of both organizations, promotors do not feel that they can run a successful event while still being bound to the requirements of both organizations.
All UPA & WPA/IBC members who have paid their entry fee can contact Hanson for a refund if they desire.
"The Western Canadian Open will still happen, and we expect it to be a success. We just felt it was the right thing to do to inform the players now, instead of leading them on." said promoter Paul Hanson.
We have been unable to reach the UPA or WPA/IBC for comments.
