As I finished the 10th VA State 9 Ball Championships last year, I felt the chapter of my life about running tournaments was over. I had and continue to be very busy with other aspects in my life outside of pool and was not spending much time in the poolroom. The natural solution was to retire from running tournaments. I had resolved in my mind to not run tournaments anymore because of the time constraint away from the game as well as the fact that the joy had gone from running them. The complaints tend to stay in your mind more than the compliments do.
As 2014 started, I was content with the decision I had made but someone else was not. Chris England, owner of The Clubhouse in Lynchburg, VA, called me and said he had an idea and wanted to run it by me. After a few talks and Chris being so convincing; “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!”
I am pleased to announce that I will be directing the 2014 Virginia State 8 Ball and 9 Ball Bar Table Championships this year at The Clubhouse in Lynchburg, VA! The dates for these events are July 10-13. In the spirit of the old Texas Express tournaments, we decided to have the events back to back over 4 days. The 8 Ball event will be July 10-11 and the 9 Ball will be July 12 -13. I will post details about these events soon.
The more I thought about running these events I decided that I might as well run my event as well. So, I am happy to announce that I will be running the 11th Annual VA State 9 Ball Championships at Diamond Billiards in Midlothian, VA on August 2-3. I will post details about this event when I post about the above mentioned events.
As a reminder, you have to be a Virginia or DC resident to participate in these events.
July is going to be a busy month for me. I hope to see many of the friends and players I have met over the years at The Clubhouse and at Diamond Billiards and hopefully meet some new players and friends as well.
