Day two of the 25th Annual Derby City Classic is complete at the Caesers Horseshoe Casino in Elizabeth, Indiana and action in the one pocket event will be kick off on day three.
Day two saw more action on the Diamond 10′ table in the Accu-Stats arena with four matches being played. The first two matches of the day were both hill-hill contests, but completely different in the way they got there.
The first match of the day saw both Alex Pagulayan and Max Eberle struggling with the big table. Neither player will want this match on their career highlight reels, but it was Eberle who climbed to a 9-4 lead. Then the pool gods deserted him and he watched Pagulayan scrape and claw back to win five in a row. Pagulayan was finally able to close out the match with the 10-9 win.
The second match of the day was between Poland’s Konrad Juszczyszyn and Japan’s Naoyuki Oi. Both players were playing at a fast pace and making balls with ease. This match went back and forth until it was tied at 9-9 and Juszczyszyn finished off the match with a 10-9 win.
Next up was defending champion Shane Van Boening and Lee Vann Corteza. Corteza is a regular in this event and he showed the packed crowd exactly what it takes to win on this table. He pounced on every opportunity that the South Dakota Kid gave him and pretty much cruised to a 10-6 win.
The last match of the night was Bigfoot newcomer Max “The Alaskan Efren” Adams and “Superman” Roberto Gomez. This one started off slow with Gomez playing extra careful against the player he was highly favored against. The score was tied at 2-2 before Gomez got comfortable and won eight straight racks for the 10-2 win.
The day three schedule for the bigfoot is…
1:00 PM John Morra vs Joshua Filler
3:30 PM Fedor Gorst vs Wiktor Zielinski
7:00 PM Alex Pagulayan vs Konrad Juszczyszyn
9:30 PM Lee Vann Corteza vs Roberto Gomez
The banks division is down to just over 100 players with most of the big names still in the mix to win this title. Van Boening, Woodward, Corteza, Chohan, Frost, Gomez, Gorst, Pagulayan and Thorpe were all still fighting as day three dawned.
Day three also sees the one pocket division kick off and the field is down to just over 400 players at the time of this article.
