There are five teams remaining in the 8-Ball event at the 7th Annual University of Michigan Team Pool Championships . The Virginia Tech Hokies are battling the Maryland Wobbles for the hot seat, having handily beaten all comers thus far on the winner side. In a dramatic earlier match, Maryland beat the Michigan Naked Cue by just one point. Michigan must now eliminate Akron Gold if it would like a shot at playing Illinois United Nations in the race to determine the winner of the one-loss side.
The Sportsmanship Award is determined by peer vote. Akron Gold's John Weigand was the winner, with honorable mentions going to Tarissa Martin (Purdue Boilerbreakers), Ashley Noble (Akron Blue), and George Mansour (Akron Gold).
