FOLLOWING THE RECENT Austrian Open on the Euro Tour, the top five players at the head of the 2011 PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup European Rankings have now established a 16 point gap between themselves and the chasing pack.
And that means that with just three events to go, it seems an increasing possibility that they will be making up the team to defend the trophy in Las Vegas in December.
To put it in perspective, with 20 points going to the winner of the Euro Tour events and 30 points awarded to the winner of the US Open – the final qualifying event on the roster – it seems that Messrs. Melling, Appleton, Van den Berg, Feijen and Souquet will be fighting it out for the top three spots and automatic entry into the team.
It also means that the likes of Daryl Peach, Mark Gray and Huidji See will need to hit a rich vein of form if they are to bridge the gap and make the five-man team.
There are now just three events left on the European Mosconi Cup ranking, with the next event being the German Open on the Euro Tour.
German Open 25-27 August
Hungarian Open 29 September to 1 October
US Open 9 Ball Championship 17-22 October
