The J.Pechauer Southeast Open 9 Ball Tour ended its 2007/2008 season on a high note over the weekend of June 14th-15th, 2008. The $2000 total added season finale and second chance tournament (Sunday only) was held at Mr. Cues II in Atlanta, Georgia, and hosted a total field of forty-two players in the main event, paying out twelve places from the $3,545 prize fund.
The season awards were announced just prior to the weekend as follows:
Player of The Year – Scotty Townsend
Best Sportsmanship – Mark Coats
Highest Senior (55 and over) – Ron Park
Highest Woman – Vicky Rybik
Highest Junior (18 and under) - Jared Stephens
Additional awards from this particular event included highest woman finisher for the weekend Jessica Pennck ($50); highest senior Ron Park ($50); and highest junior Jared Stephens ($25).
When the weekend started to draw to an end on Sunday, the hot-seat match pitted Tour Director Tommy Kennedy in the ring with Jessie Middlebrook – Kennedy held off Middlebrook by a score of 9-6 to seal his fate in the winners circle. On the one-loss side of the board, the quarter-finals were down to Jonathan Hennessee and Stevie Moore. Hennessee seized the win over Moore in a nail biter double hill match to move on to meet Middlebrook in the semis, but Middlebrook was unable to stop Hennessee as he progressed to the final round by a 9-5 success.
In the true double elimination finals, Kennedy and Hennessee fought tough in the first set, but Kennedy was forced to a second set to determine the event champ by a close first set final of 9-7. However, in the second set it was all Kennedy as he dominated the set 9-2 for the title.
