The Pechauer West Coast Tour brought a field of 30 players to Back/Street Billiards in Boise, ID for the latest stop on their tour this weekend.
Rafael Martinez looked like he would run away with this tournament early. After trailing 3-0 to tour director Steve Linglebach, Martinez won nine of the next ten racks for the 9-4 win. Martinez then duplicated the feat against Glenn Atwell, winning nine of ten racks for the 9-4 win. If that wasn't a dominating enough performance, Martinez won his next three matches by identical 9-1 scores.
Martinez's next match was against Tommy Baker from Salt Lake City for the hot seat. Baker is one of the top players in this region of the US, and if he was intimidated by Martinez's earlier victories, it didn't show. Baker cruised to a 9-4 victory to capture the hot-seat.
Things went from bad to worse for Martinez, as he lost to Tinsley Johnson 9-3 in the semi-finals. This set up a final match between Baker and Johnson for the tournament. Baker once again came out on top, scoring the 13-5 victory in the finals.
The win was worth $1000 for Baker, while Johnson settled for $800 in second place prize money. Martinez and local player Josh Smith filled out the top four spots.
The Pechauer West Coast Tour will be at Family Billiards in San Francisco, CA on May 3rd - 4th for their next event.
