In a tournament that failed to draw enough people to make a winners' side final four, Michael Fuller won three straight matches to claim the event victory for the Jacoby Custom Cue Carolina Tour stop on the weekend of April 30-May 1. It was the second straight time that Fuller won the event, although at the last stop in Raleigh, which drew nine entrants, he'd come from the one-loss side to unseat Ussery in the finals. On this most recent stop, the $1,000-added event drew three entrants to On The Snap Billiards in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
B.J. Ussery drew a bye in the event's opening round of play among the winners' side final three. Fuller and Paul Peters played a match, won by Fuller 8-1, which put Fuller and Ussery in the battle for the hot seat. The two battled to double hill before Fuller prevailed.
Ussery moved over to play Peters, and got tangled up in a second straight, double hill match, which he won. He turned back to face Fuller a second time. After winning the lag, and the opening game, Fuller watched as Ussery ran three racks. They traded racks to a 5-5 tie, before Fuller won the next six in the extended race to 11 to complete his undefeated weekend.
Fuller earned more than his first-place prize money, by having his name drawn twice in the break-and-run contest, which offered $114 per ball. He failed on his first attempt, but broke and ran in his second attempt, to collect $26 more than his $1,000 first prize for the main event. Susan Hyslip won the event raffle and took home a $500 Limited Edition Jacoby Cue.
The next stop on the Jacoby Custom Cue Carolina Tour is scheduled for May 21-22, at a site to be determined. The total pot for the break and run contest at this event will be at $500.
