Day one is complete at the the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship and the biggest news of the day was the elimination of North American 8-Ball Champion Thorsten Hohmann. Hohmann started out the day with an 8-2 win over Jim Raney, but it all went downhill from there. An 8-3 loss to Warren Kiamco left Hohmann at 1-1 and then an 8-4 loss to Loree Jon Jones left Hohmann needing a win in his last match against Steve Moore. That win didn't happen, as Moore scored an 8-4 win to send Hohmann to the bleachers early.
Other top players who failed to advance out of the first round included Danny Basavich, Marcus Chamat, Allen Hopkins, Jeremy Jones and Rafael Martinez.
Another story from day one was the dominating play of the Filipino players. Warren Kiamco, Marlon Manalo, Dennis Orcollo, Efren Reyes, Ronnie Alcano, Francisco Bustamante and Alex Pagulayan were all undefeated. Other players to end the day undefeated were Ralf Souquet, Evgeny Stalev, John Schmidt, Darren Appleton, Gerry Watson, Gabe Owen, Chia-Ching Wu and Larry Nevel.
The second half of the first round will take place on Monday with another 60 players advancing and another 40 players being sent to the stands.
Up to date round scores are always available during play at the International Pool Tour website.
