In a few short weeks, the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant MI will once again be converted into a major pool room. The WPBA Masters with a tough 48 player field with most of the highest ranking women in the sport will make its third consecutive trip to the great state of Michigan.
On the amateur side, a 36 table event, the Soaring Eagle Open V will take place with an estimated attendance of over 400 players who will be battling it out for a huge purse with $10,000 added to it. There wlll be divisional play for both men and women in the games of 9-ball and 8-ball. This is a singles event and is the largest of its kind in the region. There is a division for everyone of all skill levels, including pro. The event days run concurrently with the WPBA in the same room, Feb. 7-10, 2013.
Back to the WPBA. The Masters is one of three majors the WPBA produces each year. This will be the first event to showcase ESPN3.com with live coverage of the final matches beginning on Sunday Feburary 10, 2013 beginning at 1pm EST. The first two winners of this event were Jasmine Ouschan in 2011 and Ewa Mataya Laurence last year.
The event will be preceded by a number of important activities, which include the WPBA Kids Clinic for tribal youth in which members of the WPBA teach the youth the fundamentals of the sport. Also there will be a charity Pro-am . These activities will all take place on Wednesday Feb. 6, 2013.
