The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour was at Fiddlestix Billiard Café in Canton, OH this weekend with a field of 44 players on the bar-boxes. The theme of the event this weekend seemed to be hill-hill matches as the crowd was wowed over and over by matches getting to 8-8 and players being forced to come with shots to avoid the match loss.
With the winners side down to four players, Shawn Putnam and Don Wells won hill-hill matches to earn the right to play for the hot-seat. After the tight matches, the match for the hot-seat was less tense with Putnam cruising to a 9-3 win.
As Putnam was taking the hot-seat, Leil Gay and Tony 'T-Rex' Chohan were facing off on the one-loss side. Chohan was the victor in another hill-hill match. This set up Chohan vs Wells with the winner moving on to the finals. It was only fitting that Wells won in yet another hill-hill affair.
The re-match between Putnam and Wells looked to be on its way to another close one as the players were tied at 4-4, but Putnam turned his game up a notch and won the next five straight games for the 9-4 win.
Putnam earned $1015 for first, while Wells settled for $700 in second place prize money. Chohan and Gay filled out the top four spots.
The Viking Cue Tour will hold a $500 added amateur event at Northfield Billiards in Northfield, OH on September 4th
