The SE Open 9-Ball Tour was at Jim Bob's Pool Hall in Gulfport, Miss this weekend with a tough field of 49 players that included Shannon Daulton, Edwin Montal, Tony Chohan, Cliff Joyner, Wade Crane and Tommy Kennedy.
As play continued on Sunday, top players including Kennedy, Joyner and Crane were all sent to the bleachers to watch the rest of the tournament. Kennedy was dealt an especially tough loss by David Gutierrez from Texas. Kennedy led the match 6-0, but came up dry on his break in rack 7 and was forced to watch as David G won the next eight games to get to the hill at 8-6. Kennedy clawed back to tie the score at 8-8 and again came up empty on the break in the case game. Kennedy looked to be getting a second chance in the final game when Gutierrez hung a 4-ball, but the cue ball went the length of the table and hung in the opposite corner where Kennedy did not have a clear shot. Kennedy was able to kick the 4-ball in, but lost shape on the five and let Gutierrez back to the table to finish off the rack and eliminate Kennedy.
Gutierrez went on to play Shannon 'The Cannon' Daulton for the hot-seat and lost 9-6. Gutierrez scored a 9-7 win over Edwin Montal to earn another shot at The Cannon in the finals, but just couldn't get it done as Daulton won 11-8 in the last match.
Daulton earned $1200 for first, while David G settled for $700. Montal and Tony 'T-Rex' Chohan filled out the top four spots. Sam Gilmer was the top finishing junior player and won $50.
The SE Open 9-Ball Tour will be at World Famous Sports Cafe & Billiards in Delray Beach, FL on August 28th-29th for their next event.
