Stop #4 of the Mezz LA 9 Ball Series at Good Times Billiards started out with a tough field of SoCal pool players, with Keegan “K9” Badour (637) taking down his FIRST tournament win in the series! Keegan had a great run, going undefeated all 6 rounds and beating Kevin Nakamura (526) 8-4 in a single 8/6 race final.
Keegan started the tournament out very strong, defeating Ken Johnson (639) in the first round, followed by a decisive win in round 2 over TD Rudy Torres (598). He had subsequent strong wins over Stop #2 & #3 Champion Michael Hansen (568), followed by a defeat of current #1 Jose G Centeno (650), and finally Dexter Villapando (546) to capture the hot seat and his place in the finals.
Kevin had a great tournament as well, coming out the gate quick with a win over Rhino Lay (618) in round 1 and a win over Tim Traver (563) before taking a loss to Jose G Centeno. From the one-loss side, Kevin put together a pool clinic and winning 5 straight matches to get to the final, including wins over Ken Johnson, Chaokun Li (592), Jamal Oussi (619), newcomer Darwin Bernadaz (653) and finally Dexter Villapando.
Congrats as well to all those that cashed and put up some big numbers on the Leaderboard!
Stop #5 is Sunday, May 5th! Entries will go on sale at 9am on April 21st. Be ready to purchase those entries – they are selling out faster and faster every month. It’s essentially anyone’s tournament to win – don’t miss out!
The second season of the Mezz LA 9 Ball Series kicked off on Sunday, January 8th to a tough field of SoCal pool players, with Spencer Ladin (710) tearing through the competition in rapid succession and picking up his first title of the year! The field featured 2 players in the 700s and 9 in the 600s.
Spencer started his run with a first round win over Melissa Morris (591), then moved onto victories over Bobby Lauria (460), tournament director Rudy Torres (599), Alfred Martinez (606), and finally ex-pro Beau Runningen (743) to take his place in the hot seat.
On the losers’ side, Season 1 Top Shooter Josh Farris (685) began his run through the field after taking a first round loss to Beau, defeating Seth Henry (551), Daniel Hobbs (530), Rhino Lay (617), Gigi Callejas (551), 2-time champion Chris Wedekind (634), Alfred Martinez, and finally Stop #9 champion Phong Ha (618). At this point Josh had beaten some of the toughest players in the field, and encountered Beau once more for a shot at the finals. Beau double dipped Josh to make it to the final, but fell short in the end against Spencer, giving the young shooter a 9-4 victory.

Several new players have joined the series: Beau Runninngen, Chaokun Li, David Newcomb, Melissa Morris, Bobby Lauria, Robert Ortega, and Derek Edmonds.
A strong field of amateur players made it out to Gladi8or Pizza & Billiards on May 1st for some competitive 9 ball on 9 foot tables, with Josh Farris (684) capturing the hot seat against Francis Lanag (607) 7-1. Francis made his way back to the final after defeating Stop #4 champion Jon Balan (658) on the losers’ side 5-3; he then won the first set in the double elimination final 6-3 against Josh, but was unable to overcome the second set, which went to Josh 5-2. This is Francis’ highest finish so far in the series but we expect many more high finishes from him!
Several new players have joined the series, including Abet Ng, Butch Barba, Linda Dugger, Jesse Palomares and John Venadas. The series continues to grow as players fight for critical points that will get them into the Season Finale in December, where the top 32 players will get to battle it out for free for all the cash!
A big congrats as well to Jeffrey Jamerson who won the Break&Run Raffle for FREE entry to Stop #6, and Ray Cruz who won the Holy Case Raffle!
