A little over a year ago, Tony 'T-Rex' Chohan offered a challenge to take on any player under the age of 50 who lived west of Oklahoma in a one pocket match for $10,000. That challenge would take place at Hard Times Billiards in Sacramento. Chohan spent the first part of this week, dominating a field of 37 other players at Hard Times to win the Summer Jamboree One Pocket Division.
Chohan started with wins over Gandy Valle, Ed Ames and David Reljic by a combined score of 9-2. He appeared to get stronger after that as he cruised by Mark Haddad 3-0 and then crushed Richard Burns 3-0 in eleven minutes to take the hot-seat.
Meanwhile, Reno Open champion Dennis Orcollo was taking a much longer path to the finals. Orcollo, taking advantage of his shot making ability, scored wins over Jeff Gregory and Warren Kiamco before falling to Mark Haddad. Orcollo came back with wins over Valle, Billy Palmer, Lance Salazar, Haddad and Burns to earn his place in the finals against Chohan.
Orcollo might not have needed classic one pocket experience to win his earlier matches, but the difference between shot-making and one pocket strategy became evident early in the finals as Chohan raced to a 4-0 lead before Orcollo was able to win a game. Chohan finished off the match in the next game for the 5-1 win.
Chohan pocketed $2200 for first, while Orcollo settled for $1500. Richard Burns and Mark Haddad filled out the top four spots. Review all of the match scores with our online brackets.
The $10,000 added Summer Jamboree 9-Ball Division will kick off Friday at noon.
