The Jay Swanson "Swanee the Gentle Giant" tournament scheduled to take place this weekend is now reported as being full! With 128 signed up and 20 more on the waiting list, this San Diego annual event is shaping up to be a who's who of West Coast Billiard buffs. Defending champion Ernesto Dominguez and 2nd place finisher Dave Hemmah might just meet again, but they will also have to contend with the likes of Max Eberle, Jose Parica, and Santos Sambajon. Last year at this time the event, hosted by College Billiards and Gaslamp Billiard Palace, had a paultry 33 participants signed up, but nearly filled on the day of the event! Tournament coordinators report that if another 20 people add their names to the waiting list the tournament board will open up to hold the 256 and all interested competitors will play to their heart's delight! Victor Castro, manager of College Billiards is the one to talk to at (619) 583-6361.
Up North in Oregon City, OR, KC's Midway Bar and Grill will be hosting a $1000 added Pechauer Tour Stop. Paul Potier is the favorite in the pack with his significant lead in points (550 - compared to 325 points held by two second place contenders one of which will be at the Swanee event this weekend - Dave Hemmah). He will have to contend with the best the North offers: Stan Tourangeau, Glenn Atwell, possibly Dan Louie, and many more! The winner of this Pechauer stop will be awarded their entry fee to the Sands Reno Open this June.
Updates to both tournaments will be provided as available throughout the weekend. Stay posted to Azbilliards.com for all the latest pool tournament and billiard news!
