New Iberia, Louisiana- Day 1 of the Poison Dragon Promotions Pro
Classic is done with the top names left on the winners side. Rodney
Morris, Shane Van Boening, Johnny Archer and Charlie Williams are the
four names that will face off today at Emerald Billiards in the 9-Ball
pro open division. The events are in conjunction with the Ozone
Billiards US Amateur Open.
The event started off on Wednesday night with a APA Team Up with a Pro
Night. APA Acadiana and Emerald Billiards made this special event
possible where fans joined a pro captain for some scotch doubles team
9-Ball. The event was streamed on www.poolactiontv.com
and had Team Shawn Putnam defeat Team Charlie Williams in the finals.
The event was sponsored by Poison Cues by The Predator Group which
supplied all the entrants with Poison products and the overall winner
with a new Poison Cue.
"The fans watching online really enjoyed watching the amateurs play with
the pro captain teaching and helping them shoot. It was educational and
fun to watch", said Ray Hansen, owner of Pool Action TV. The live
stream for the entire event will be available throughout the weekend.
Thursday the hard action started with no early round upsets. Local
favorite Jimmy Majors defeated ladies pro newcomer Erica Eunji Park of
Korea 9-4 while Brandon Shuff handed Japan'slovely Kaori Ebe a 9-3 loss.
The biggest upset of the day came with rising amateur star Tommy Najar
defeating tour veteran Shawn Putnam. Najar almost pulled off back to
back upsets with Rodney Morris edging him out 9-8.
Charlie Williams defeated former junior champion Josh Newman 9-5 which
set up a marquee match with recent Philippines Open Champion Thorsten
Hohmann. Hohmann made a few uncharacteristic errors which Williams
capitalized on each time that ended in a 9-4 win for the Korean Dragon.
Johnny Archer faced a tough Brandon Shuff and though Shuff kept it tight
at the beginning, Archer pulled away in the middle for a 9-5 win. Shane
Van Boening is keeping his hot streak alive with a 9-0 shutout in his
first match and then a 9-3 trouncing of Jimmy Majors.
Today's winner's side final four matchups will be Williams vs Van
Boening and Morris vs Archer. Putnam and Hohmann are still alive on the
loser's side.
