Sullivan goes undefeated to claim Predator Tri-State Tour title in Wayne, NJ

Hunter Sullivan and Mac Jankov

New Jersey’s Hunter Sullivan has been active in three Tri-State, NYC-area pool tours for almost four years now and has won events in all of them; the Garden State, Predator Tri-State and Mac Attack Tours. He collected his first (recorded) cash payout in January of 2020, finishing fourth at a Predator Tri-State Tour stop held at Shooter’s Family Billiards. in Wayne, NJ. He won his first (*) and second stop on that tour at the same location; the first time in September of ’22 (a split with Nick Torraca) and this past weekend (Sat., Nov. 25), as he went undefeated at a $500-added, 10-ball event that drew 58 entrants to Shooter’s.

In a modified, double-elimination format, the field of 58 went down to 16 competitors, eight from each side of the initial bracket. Sullivan squared off against the tour director of the Mac Attack Tour, Mac Jankov in the finals.

In the initial pairings of the single-elimination stage, a competitor who emerged from the winners’ side of the double-elimination bracket faced an opponent who’d advanced from the loss side. Only two of the winners in Round One of single elimination had advanced from the original bracket’s loss side; Raymund Paragas and Bryan Arrao, both of whom would be eliminated in the semifinals.

None of Sullivan’s three opponents, prior to the finals, chalked up more than two racks against him as he downed both Rachel Lang and Paragas in the semifinal 6-2, and in the middle, gave up just one to Timothy Clark. Jankov, in the meantime, gave up a total of nine racks over his three matches, downing Roseann Daw 7-4, Jon Guzman 6-3 and in the other winners’ side semifinal, Bryan Arrao 5-2.

As might have been expected, the final match turned into a double-hill fight. Sullivan won it to claim his first 2023 title and his first since splitting with Torraca in ‘22.

Tour representatives thanked the ownership and staff at Shooter’s Family Billiards, as well as title sponsor Predator Cues, Romer’s Trophies, Phil Cappelle and Sterling/Gaming. The next stop on the Predator Tri-State will be announced at a later date.
