Orietta Strickland came from the one-loss side to dominate the Hunter Classics Amateur Women's Tour event this weekend at Paradise Billiards in Wheat Ridge, Co.
Strickland started the tournament with a win, but then dropped a 7-4 decision to Melinda Hinojosa. Strickland took the loss in stride and started dominating players on the one-loss side of the board.
Meanwhile, on the right side of the board, Heather Pulford scored a 7-1 win over Jillian Valles for the hot-seat. Valles had scored her previous best Hunter Tour finish back in June when she took 7th place. She would have to settle for third this time, as she became another victim of the Strickland Steamroller on the one-loss side.
Strickland won seven straight matches after the loss to Hinojosa, and didn't allow an opponent to get to the hill against her.
In the finals, Strickland would have to beat Pulford twice if she wanted to earn the WPBA qualifier. That would not turn out to be a problem, as Strickland beat Pulford 7-1 and 7-2 to earn first place.
Strickland earned $750 in prize money along with the WPBA 2006 qualifier. Pulford settled for $520 in second place prize money. Valles and Leslie Anne Rogers filled out the top four spots.
The Hunter Classics Amateur Women's Tour will be at Legend's Billiards in League City, TX for their next event on August 20th - 21st.
