Wednesday, April 16th 2013 saw a match between home favorites Earl Strickland & Jayson Shaw VS Francisco Bustamante & Warren Kiamco - The scotch doubles 10 ball challenge match with $2,000 up for grabs for the winners, saw the Filipono pairing getting quickly out of the gate to a 4-0 lead in this race to 25 format.
Earl was already looking despondent in the early stages but Jayson showed wisdom beyond his young 24 year age and managed to keep Earls eyes on the target ahead of them and quickly turned the score around.
The match was close throughout, with Earl and Eagle Eye Shaw keeping their nose ahead till the score was 21-20 in the USA/Scotland favor.
The Filipino pairing soon showed they were still in the match and took the lead at 22-21.
The 150 fans packed around the 10ft arena table, were very vocal for their favorite pairing, and had plenty to cheer at.
Before we knew it the score was hill-hill at 24-24. It doesn't get any closer than this, and unfortunately the Filipino pairing could only watch as Earl and Jayson gelled perfectly as they ran out the last rack with Earl The Pearl pulling of an amazing shot on the 6 ball to keep their run out going. With the final score at 25-24 I can assure you that the fans in the room and those watching online witnessed yet another star studded and exciting match at Steinway Billiards. The fan reaction to this scotch doubles format was very well received and will lead to more exciting matches in this discipline from the room that really caters for the true pool enthusiasts needs!
Steinway Billiards will also proudly host the World Tournament of 14.1 on August 19th - 24th.
