The McDermott Cue New England Women's Tour held it's last event of the year on November 18-19, 2006 at Bay State Billiards III in Salem, MA. Tour coordinator Bonnie Saritelli once again ran a great event. The winner of the event was Morgan Steinman, who is also the tour's Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
Steinman defeated Melony Page, Trisha Harmon and former tour stop winners Erica Testa and Nicole Albergaria on her way to the hot seat match against Kathleen Lawless. Lawless recently returned from her first WPBA event, in Albequrque, NM., where she defeated touring pro Alice Rim. Lawless had been playing strongly during the event until facing Steinman, who won the hotseat match 7-1.
Lawless went to the one-loss side to play Nicole Albergaria in the semi finals. Albegaria lost to Erica Testa on the winners' side but proceeded to plow her way through Melony Page, Sherry Pouncey, Trisha Harmon (7-2), and Wendy Snow (7-2) to get to Lawless. Albegaria took an early lead in the match and made it to the hill when Lawless had only won three games. Lawless was not about to give up and battled her way back to join Albegaria on the hill. It was a valiant effort but she would have to settle for third place as Albegaria won the match 7-6.
Albegaria again took an early lead, this time 4-1, in the final match against Steinman. Both players looked hungry for the win, and the match came down to Steinman's win in game 13. It was quite exciting to watch.
Steinman will receive paid entry into the Carolina Women's Billiards Classic next year. As Player of the Year she is also invited to play in every 2007 WPBA event. Congratulations Morgan!
Results:
1st Morgan Steinman $480 and $500 paid WPBA entry fee
2nd Nicole Albegaria $300
3rd Kathleen Lawless $200
4th Wendy Snow $100
5th/6th Carol Clark and Trisha Harmon $50
