Don Steele and Amanda Pasko were the big winners at the weekend's stop on the Planet Pool Tour at Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD.
The open division drew a field of 84 players and Steele took the hot-seat with a close win over BJ Ussery. Ussery then lost to Eddie Abraham on the one-loss side setting up the final double elimination match. While Steele was unbeatable up to the hot-seat, it was Abraham with a 9-7 win in the first set of the finals to force a final deciding set. The second set went to hill-hill and both players engaged in a safety battle on the 1-ball before Steele was able to fire in a 1-9 carom to win the set.
Steele collected $1200 while Abraham took home $750 for second. Ussery and Richard Keefe filled out the top four spots.
The Women's division saw 33 players competing for the WPBA Florida Classic qualifier. The largest field in a women's division in 5 years. Amanda Pasko went undefeated with a 7-4 win over Jin Hee Park for the hot-seat and another 7-4 win over Park in the finals.
Pasko collected $200 plus the $500 WPBA qualifier, while Park settled for $300. Tommie Keyser finished in third place after winning 6 straight matches on the one-loss side. Sueyen Rhee finished in fourth.
