All in total, sixty-one players came out last weekend (October 4th-5th) to Starcade Billiards Fall Classic in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. The $1500 added (entry $50) tournament nine-ball event raced to nine on the winners side and seven on the one-loss side to determine who would take top honors – David Broxson ended up being the man to beat.
Broxson was only one of several top names from the area – a few others to note, Josh Hillard, Scotty Townsend, Rick Howard, Pablo Matheu, and James Roberts were on hand as well to give him a run for the money. Broxson was not deterred, instead, he ran straight through the brackets undefeated and waited it out for his finals opponent which came in the form of Josh Hillard.
Hillard first ran into Broxson during the hot-seat match where he was defeated 9-3. On the one-loss side he met Pablo Matheu in the semis (9-5) before moving on to have another shot at getting the best of Broxson in the race to twelve final. But it was not to be, Broxson held control of the match for the majority of the set and ended up taking the first place position with a score of 12-3. Congrats to David on a weekend of strong play!
Thanks to Robin Workman, owner, for hosting the event and to Peggy Rheam and her staff for their hard work. If in the area, stop in on October 18th for the annual monthly nine-ball tournament – the entry is a mere $20.
