The Stan James Canadian Nine Ball Tour kicked off their first event Saturday at Pool Paradise in Waterloo, Ontario with a field full of the best players in all of Canada. Alain Martel is in attendance along with Cliff Thorburn, Eddie Galati, Joe Lawrence, Danny Hewitt and others.
This tour, co-sponsored by Falcon Cues and Simonis Cloth, awards WPA (World Pool-Billiard Association) ranking points to the participants and it is these points that will determine which players will represent Canada in the WPA World Championships.
At the end of the day the competition had gotten the best of some of Canada's top names. Chris Orme, former Canadian National Champion, Mario Morro, Joe Lawrence, current Canadian National Championship finalist Nick Guimond and former world number-four ranked snooker champion Kirk Stevens all had their ticket's punched on day one. Those rising to the challenge and remaining undefeated after the first day include Jeff White, Edwin Montal, Brady Gollan, and Harold Rousseau.
The final rounds begin at noon on Sunday. Those players who finish close to the top will be able to carry not only momentum but also World Championship points into the next Stan James event to be held in Calgary at Stix Billiards November 19 and 20.
