Las Vegas’ Stacy Allsup beat the best that Arizona, New Mexico and Las Vegas had to offer to win the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour’s October tour stop at Bullshooters on October 28th.
The twenty seven player field was full of top talent with nine of the top ten players on the points list competing.
Fans in attendance were treated to a great hill-hill match between the top two players on the points list late Saturday when Susan Williams (#1) and Angel Paglia (#2) faced off. That match went to Williams 7-6 and Angel was on her way to the one loss side.
As if that hill-hill match wasn’t enough, Williams came back on Sunday to defeat Terri Johnson McCauley 7-6 and then Stacy Allsup 7-6 for the hot-seat.
Allsup took a short trip to the one loss side and found fellow Las Vegas player Rebecca Wagner waiting. Wagner had lost her first match of the event to Sara Miller, but came back with seven straight wins; including wins over Johnson-McCauley and a hill-hill over Paglia.
The semi-final match would go back and forth with Allsup taking the match’s first two rack lead at 6-4. Wagner won the next two games to send the match to hill-hill (of course), before Allsup pocketed the final nine ball for the win and another shot at Susan Williams in the finals.
The final match would be an extended race to nine and it couldn’t have been closer. Williams held an early 3-1 lead before Allsup tied the match at 3-3. Allsup then took a two rack lead at 5-3, before Williams came back to tie things at 5-5. Williams got to the hill first at 8-6 and almost three fouled Allsup in the 15th rack. Allsup kicked out of the three foul attempt and went on to win that rack for an 8-7 scoreline. One rack later, things were tied at hill-hill and one more rack later, it was Stacy Allsup pocketing the final 9-ball for the 9-8 win and first place.
Sunday’s second chance tournament saw Kristen Haney defeat Jaye Succo in the finals for the win.
The AWBT’s season finale will be at Bullshooters on December 1st and 2nd.
Tour Director’s Kristie Ortega and Tres Kane expressed their thanks to Mike Bates of Bullshooters, as well as Jose Gonzalez and other anonymous sponsors of this event.
