The festivities at the Viking Tour's National Championship got underway Tuesday night with a $1000 added mini tournament at The Pool Room in Duluth, Ga.
The tourney drew 53 players but two top seeds, Shane Van Boening and 'Little' John Macias opted out of the tournament in order to take their competition to one of the "challenge tables" that was available.
The mini tournament ran until 2:30 in the morning, but the final winner was Sparly Ferrell who defeated Paul Song in the finals. Stoney Stone and Randy Jordan ended up tied for 3rd.
Players are still streaming in for the main event and the Pool Room is hopping with activity. Mike Gulyassi is on-hand handling cue repairs and The Pool Room is open 24/7 all week for tournament and 'challenge' action.
