Earlier this year, it was Allison Fisher that was shocked in the first round of a WPBA Classic Tour event. At the WPBA Pacific Coast Classic on Thursday, it was Karen Corr who had that honor.
Corr never led in her match against the NWPA's 2007 player of the year Kyoko Sone. Sone finally ended the match after a Corr scratch on the 5-ball in rack fifteen. Sone ran the remaining balls for the 9-6 win. Unfortunately for Sone, she was unable to hold off Line Kjorsvik in the next round.
Next to fall was #1 ranked Kelly Fisher who dropped a 9-7 match to Korean sensation Yu-Ram Cha. Cha has been making waves all year on the WPBA tour and this event looks to be no exception. Cha will face Monica Webb in her third round match on Friday evening.
Not wanting to be left out of the upset list, Sarah Rousey ended the day with a 9-3 win over Helena Thornfeldt. Rousey will have to keep playing strong, as she will face Anna Kostanian on Friday.
Another player drawing attention on day one was Janet Atwell. Atwell scored a 9-2 win over Debbie Schjodt in round one and followed that up with a 9-6 win over Val Finnie. Atwell will face Ga-Young Kim on Friday.
