Shotzes 13th Annual Memorial Day Open 9-Ball Champion – John Doherty

The 13th Annual Memorial Day Open 9-Ball event was held this past weekend (May 24-25, 2008) at Shotzes Rack and Roll in Everett, Washington. A total field of forty-nine players came out to participate in the $750 added nine-ball tournament, with such names as Rafael Martinez, Paul Potier, and Dan Louie in tow.

After a tough hot-seat match-up between Eddie Mataya and Rafael Martinez, Mataya held on for the win and a guaranteed spot in the final round, with the eventual winner, John Doherty. Doherty worked his way through the one-loss side to the single race to nine final round, where he proceeded to take the win and title of champion in a tight finish with Mataya and a final score of 9-7. In addition to a fine finish by Doherty and Mataya, honorable mention goes out to top woman for the weekend which went to Andy Ruth - Ruth received $120 for her efforts.
