Day one at the WPBA Delta Classic at Samstown Casino in Robinsonville, MS is complete and the young players are making big waves.
The match that had everyone talking, was Kim Shaw's 9-6 win over #1 ranked Karen Corr. Shaw took control of this match right out of the gate as she jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed. Corr seemed unable to adjust to the non-Sardo rack and the alternating break format made it difficult to string racks and catch up. Shaw will face Jennifer Chen on Friday.
Corr was not the only player to fall on day one. Jeanette Lee fell behind Kim White 5-8 and almost came back for the victory. Lee made it back to hill-hill but was forced to watch White run the case rack down to the 9 when White got out of line on the 9-ball to possibly give Lee renewed hope. White calmly lined up a cross-side bank though, and drilled it home for the victory. White will next face Ming Ng, who upset Tiffany Nelson 9-6.
Another hill-hill thriller was won by Megan Minerich who defeated Monica Webb in the second round. Minerich will take on Maureen Seto on Friday.
