Shane Claims TAR 34 Over Reyes

Shane Van Boening

Shane Van Boening has won TAR 34 by defeating Efren Reyes in both the 8-Ball and 10-Ball competition. Reyes won the One Pocket competition.

Day one was a marvelous display of 8-Ball from both men. In the end the day would belong to SVB as he won the match 27-23, but the details show the difference was the superiority of Van Boening's break. He was able to open more tables up and control the table as well with his safety play. During the entire match Reyes missed only 4 balls and Van Boening only missed 11.

Day two was One Pocket. This one looked like it would wrap up the competition for Van Boening as he led the match 10-8 in a race to 11. But he lost focus at just the wrong moment when he could have sewn up the case game and once he lost control of that table Reyes worked his magic. He made a marvelous run to get to 9 and then took the next two racks to win the day 11-10.

Day three would be the tie-breaker and it was 10-Ball. Reyes went out to an early lead but then faltered, appearing to be a bit tired from the previous two days of competition. Once Van Boening felt that he had the edge he ran away with it and dusted Reyes 27-15 to take the final day and two out of three of the competitions to be declared the winner of TAR 34. Perhaps the biggest 'tell' of this day was that SVB broke and ran ten times during the course of the day while Reyes managed four.
