Second Round WPBL Playoffs: New York Pride Defeat Las Vegas Dice

The World Professional Billiard League’s Championship Playoffs made history as the #1 seeded New York Pride defeated the #9 seed Las Vegas Dice in record time. The third match of the second round was played at the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV Sunday February 10, 2014.

It took less than two hours and only 5 games for the top seeded New York Pride to end the Las Vegas Dice season with an 11-0 victory. The Pride scored back to back shut-outs to close out the match as Warren Kiamco and Earl Strickland shut out Charlie Williams and Max Eberle 30-0 in the final game of doubles, followed by Kiamco shutting out Williams 30-0 to start singles play. Kiamco's shut-out put the Pride up 11-0 in the match, making it impossible for the Dice to mount a comeback in the three games left.

The match started off tight, with the Pride winning a shoot-out 30-29 to take a 1-0 match lead. However, New York would go on to outscore Las Vegas 120-12 in game points over the final four games of the match to be the first team in the WPBL to clinch a match in just its fifth game. The match is also the first in league history to end in a shut-out.

New York moves on to play Johnny Archer's Atlanta Scorpions Wednesday February 12, 2014 in the semi-finals. Tuesday February 11th, Thorsten Hohmann and the Minnesota Outlaws take on Corey Deuel's Miami Cruise at 6:30 PST.  The winner of that match faces the Pittsburgh Poison in the last semi-final match on Thursday.
