Scott Tollefson, from Arvada Colorado, came back and defeated local player Jeff Heath twice to win the 9-ball division of the Annual U.S. Bar Table Championships late Friday night.
Tollefson was undefeated heading into the match for the hot seat, which he lost to Heath 9-7. A quick trip to the one loss side followed, where Tolefson defeated Jose Parica 9-5. It was the second time Tollefson and Parica had met in the tournament, and the second time Tollefson had beaten Parica in the tournament.
With the victory over Parica, Tollefson earned another shot at Heath. This time though, he would have to beat Heath twice.
The first set in the finals was a repeat of the hot-seat match score, but with a different winner, as Tollefson scored the 9-7 victory. The score in the final set was identical, as Tollefson scored another 9-7 win for first place in the tournament.
Tollefson collected $5000 for first, while Heath settled for $3000 in second place prize money. Parica and Edwin Montal from Calgary filled out the top four spots and earned $2000 and $1000 respectively.
The 8-ball division will get underway Saturday morning with a full field of 128 players already signed up.
