The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour is Palace Billiards in Villa Park, IL this week for the $25,000 added National Championship and tour director Mike Janis got things underway on Tuesday night with a $1000 added mini-tournament.
The event drew a field of 79 players competing in the single elimination event. In the end, it was John Schmidt scoring a 7-6 win over recent North American Open Tour winner Shawn Putnam to earn the $750 first prize. Putnam settled for $500. Manuel Chau and Niels Feijen ended up tied for third with Troy Frank, Jon Kucharo, Tom Stathis Jr and WPBA star Sarah Rousey finishing tied for 5th.
The main event will get underway on Wednesday and we will have brackets Wednesday evening.
