Day one at the US Open 9-Ball Championship is complete and one former champion has a long path in front of him if he hopes to repeat as champion. 2006 Champion John Schmidt was one of the players who caught a tough draw on day one as he dropped an 11-6 decision to Robb Saez. Other marquee matches on day one saw Jason Klatt defeat Sammy Monday 11-5, Charlie Williams defeat Danny Harriman 11-9, Adam Smith defeat Sparky Ferrell 11-4 and Marlon Manalo defeat CJ Wiley 11-4.
Other notable players advancing with day one wins included Stevie Moore, Thorsten Hohmann, reigning Champion Mika Immonen, Tony Crosby, Raj Hundal, Rafael Martinez and Earl Strickland.
