Sanchez Ruiz’s Title Defense Begins In Atlantic City

Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz

WNT Ranked No.1, World Pool champion and defending US Open holder Francisco Sanchez Ruiz overcame both opponents on day one in Atlantic City – live on DAZN to fans in the United States.

The Spaniard, who overcame a bout of Kidney Stones ahead of the trip to the United States, showed no sign of ring rust with an impressive 9-1 display against Jon Weber to open the day on the streaming table.

Max Watanbe awaited in the next round, but he followed fellow-countryman in falling victim to the Spanish superstar – a 9-2 win for El Ferrari which saw him through to Winners’ Qual.

European hopefuls followed FSR into the winners’ bracket, with Polish trio Konrad Juszczyszyn, Wojciech Szewczyk and Mieszko Fortunski booking their place in Wednesday’s action.

Cuelees Connecticut 9-ball Open winner Moritz Neuhausen continued his form in the States – after being taken to the limit by Jesse Engel hill-hill on the streaming table.

Tyler Styer will be targeting a deep run this week in hopes of securing the next automatic Mosconi Cup place for Team USA – which will be announced following the results of the US Open Pool Championship. Finishing with a Golden Break against Vietnam’s Luong Duc Thien, a tasty encounter with Sanjin Pehlivanovic awaits.

2002 US Open champion Corey Deuel delighted American hearts on the main table with a phenomenal 9-6 victory over Sharks International Open champion Ko Ping Chung.

The best action of the day was found in the final match on table one – a mouth-watering all-Asian time between European Open runner-up Anton Raga and Cuelees Connecticut 9-ball Open finalist Chang Yu-Lung.

The Chinese Taipei man defeated the Dragon hill-hill to secure a place in the next round, meaning Raga will have to fight through Loser’s Qualification – with matches getting underway on Tuesday from 10am Eastern.
