The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour was in action with a field of 58 players competing for the $3000 in addded money at Snookers Cafe and Billiards in Providence, RI. Snookers is a former Billiards Digest Top 10 room and owners Steve and Regina Goulding always help to throw a top notch event.
Early favorites Mike Davis and Santos Sambajon proved to be the players to beat in this one, as they went undefeated to the match for the hot-seat. Santos came out on top in this match by the score of 9-6 and Davis moved to the one-loss side to try to earn a rematch with Sambajon in the finals.
Davis had his hands full on the one-loss side as Joe Dupuis from Brockton Mass. was making the most of this tournament. Dupuis had not competed in a Joss tour stop for quite some time, but he did not act like a newcomer to the tour as he took Davis almost all the way to the wire before falling short 9-6.
The wait in the hot-seat might have gotten to Santos as he came out looking a little tired in the finals. Davis took advantage and raced to an early 6-2 lead on his way to a 9-5 win in the first set of the finals.
Sambajon was the player to come out of the gate fast in the second set and he took a quick 5-1 lead. That lead would prove to be insurmountable for Davis as Sambajon held him off for a 9-5 win.
Sambajon earned $1750 for first, while Davis took home $1250 for second. Dupuis and Ed Vazquez filled out the top four spots.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Golden Cue Billiards in Albany, NY next weekend for another $3000 added event.
