Robb Saez |
A world class field of 56 players including four former US Open champions and three members of the US Mosconi Cup team made their way to Capone's Billiards in Spring Hill, Florida to celebrate the life of Steve Mizerak and compete in the Steve Mizerak Florida State Championship.
As the winners side narrowed on Sunday, the two players that remained unbeaten were Robb Saez and Earl Strickland. Fans at the event said that Strickland was playing some of the best pool he has played in quite a while, but it still wasn't enough to get by Saez in the hot-seat match as Saez scored a 8-7 win over Strickland.
Strickland went to the left side of the board and found Corey Deuel waiting. Strickland had sent Corey to the one loss side earlier on Sunday, and he handed Deuel his second loss by the score of 7-3.
The win over Deuel earned Strickland another shot at Saez in the finals, but Saez was not going to be stopped on this day. Saez cruised to a 9-5 victory in the finals.
Saez earned $5000 for first place, while Strickland settled for $3000 in prize money. Deuel and Troy Frank filled out the top four positions.
