Rose double dips Morgado to win J. Pechauer Ride the 9 Tour stop

Gary Rose took two out of three matches over Derrick Morgado, specifically, both sets of a true double elimination final to win the September 23 stop on the J. Pechauer Ride the 9 Tour. The $250-added (by Narragansett Beer, RI) event, which featured a $25, pre-pay buy-in, drew 38 entrants to Bo's Billiards in Warwick, RI.

The first of their three took place in the winners' side semifinals, with Morgado sending Rose to the loss side 4-3 (Rose racing to 5). Joining Morgado in the hot seat match was Van Sly, who'd downed Bill Cote, double hill. With Sy racing to 6, Morgado allowed him only a single rack, in a 4-1 victory that left him in the hot seat, awaiting the return of Rose.

On the loss side, Rose picked up Kevin Bauccio, who'd shut out Jordan Emerson, and defeated John Marcinko 6-2. Cote drew John Ferreira, who'd gotten by Jamie Forcier 5-3, and Linda Morton 6-1. Rose prevailed double hill over Bauccio, and was joined in the quarterfinals by Cote, who'd eliminated Ferreira 5-1.

In a straight-up race to 5, Rose went on to defeat Cote 5-3, and then, would give up only six racks over the next 21 games, two per win, to capture the event title. He downed Sy in the semifinals, 5-2, and repeated that score through both sets of the double elimination final.

Tour director Gloria Magnano thanked the ownership and staff at Bo's Billiards for their hospitality, as well as Narragansett Beer. A total of 10 items were raffled off at the event, including a J. Pechauer cue, won by Joe Kaulenas.
