Fifty four of the top ladies from Texas and beyond descended on Legend's Billiards in League City Texas this weekend for the August stop on the Hunter Classics Tour, a qualifier for a 2005 WPBA event.
Over the past 3 years, Leslie Anne Rogers has dominated the tour, and this stop was no different. Rogers cruised through her Saturday matches not allowing an opponent to win more than four games against her the entire way.
When play started on Sunday, almost half of the players were still in line to possibly win the qualifier. One of those players competing for the qualifier was Japanese player Saeko Mori who made the trip to Texas along with Miyuki Sakai who was fresh off of tournament wins in Korea and Virginia. Sakai failed to make the Sunday matches this time, and Mori was eliminated in 9th place. For Leslie Anne Rogers though, sunday was more of the same as she eventually took the hot-seat with a 7-1 win over Tara McCracken.
McCracken then eliminated Heather Pulford 7-3 to set up the rematch with Rogers. The 7-5 score in the final match was the closest that any opponent got to defeating Rogers all weekend, but was still not enough.
Rogers took the win and earned $750 in addition to the qualifier. McCracken settled for $600 in prize money. Pulfurd and Rachel Hurst filled out the top 4 spots. In addition to the cash and qualifier, Rogers has all but sewn up the Tour Championship title. This will be Rogers' fourth straight year as tour champion.
The ladies of the Hunter Classics Tour expressed their thanks to Legend's Billiards for hosting two stops this season and an additional thanks to tour sponsor Hunter Cues who provided a beautiful cue valued at $2600 to be raffled off at the event.
The Hunter Classics Tour will be at Legends Billiards & Grill in Brenham, TX on September 25th-26th for their next event.
