Rodney Morris has won the Open 9-Ball event at Breakers Billiards in Knoxville, Tn.
Morris started his run through the full field of 64 players with wins over Kelly Owens and Wade Ancock, but was then derailed by Robbie Langford who sent him to the one-loss side. From there, Morris would not lose another match. Wins over Lefty Bennett and David Rowell set up a match between Morris and "The Black Widow" Jeanette Lee. Morris survived a hill-hill scare and sent Lee to the stands to watch the rest of the tournament. Morris then defeated Shannon Daulton and followed that up with revenge against Langford. Wins over Bill Bailey and Tony Watson earned Morris a shot against undefeated Tony Mougey in the finals.
The first set in the true double elimination finals went by quickly with Morris racing to a 9-3 win. Mougey looked well on his way to returning the favor in the second set as he raced to a 7-3 lead. Mougey would not win another game though, as Morris won the next 6 games for the 9-7 win.
Morris collected $1500 for first place, while Mougey settled for $1000. Watson and Bailey filled out the top four spots.
