2004 BCA Open Champion, Tony Robles, says he is ecstatic for the opportunity to play in a major tournament in Puerto Rico. Robles, who lives in New York but is proud of his Puerto Rican heritage, said: "It is a great honor for me to be able to play for a title in my home country. I'm really excited and I'm looking forward to playing in front of my people and my fans."
Added Robles: "I haven't been to Puerto Rico since 1996, but I am certainly hoping to be among the crowd favorites in the tournament and to see a lot of my old friends and pool players from back home."
The tournament will be played on the weekend of January 27,28,29, 2006 in Players Pool Hall in Yauco, Puerto Rico. Last's year edition featured Johnny Archer and the island's top players. For this edition, Fernando L. Calvo, the pool hall owner, is hoping to surpass last year's achievements. Calvo said: "Last year's tournament was a great success and we are going to top it this year. Getting Mr. Robles, another icon in the pool world, to come is certainly another step towards that goal. We are expecting the attendance of a couple of other Pro Players and fans alike, so they can enjoy our beautiful beaches and great sceneries."
Robles apparently is convinced that the event will be a great one, as he added: "Please tell everyone including the fans, that I am really looking forward to seeing them in January and I am hoping that they will come out to support not just me but all of the players. "
Fans and players alike who would like to attend or participate in this event can contact Mr. Fernando Calvo at 1-787-856-2090 from 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
