Legendary pool player Efren “Bata” Reyes underwent “refractive surgery” and what eye specialist Dr. Arnold Salud described as “lasik procedure” which was done by Dr. Jack Arroyo of the American Eye Center which is regarded as the pre-eminent eye institute in the country.
Dr. Salud said “everything went well and Efren will have a check up today.” He said the operation was done on both eyes after they used contact lenses and eyeglasses to simulate the effects of the surgery. Dr. Salud said they had Reyes play some pool after which he said he “saw the balls much more clearly” which led him to agree to going ahead with the operation.
Poor eyesight has been one of the major reasons for Reyes recent string of defeats and indications are that with his poor vision corrected he should once again be back at his best.
Reyes was accompanied by businessman-sportsman Aristeo “Putch” Puyat the acknowledged “Godfather” of Philippine pool who had convinced “The Magician” to undergo surgery although he was reluctant at the beginning.
