Twenty-three women played in the AWBT’s 6th stop at Kolby’s Korner Pocket in Tempe, Arizona on Saturday, Sept. 27th & 28th. This was a $500 added WPBA Qualifier, presented by J. Pechauer Custom Cues. The Qualifier spot was for the WPBA Championships to be held in Florida in November.
The top 8 finalists on Sunday were as follows: A side: Nicole Keeney vs. Kathleen Lawless, Nina Tagley vs. Iris Ranola. Keeney defeated Lawless (7-3) and Ranola defeated Tagley (7-0).
B side: Susan Williams vs. Angel Paglia, Susan “Madhatter” Mello vs. Sara Miller. Williams defeated Paglia (7-2) and Madhatter defeated Miller (7-6). Paglia and Miller finished 7/8th.
Keeney and Ranola met up for the hot-seat match. Ranola beat Keeney (7-4). That’s 2 AWBT hot-seats in a row!
5/6th place went to Tagley after losing to Williams (7-6) and Lawless after losing to Madhatter (7-2). Williams met up with Madhatter in the quarters. Mello won (7-6). Williams finished 4th. Madhatter went on to play Keeney in the semi-finals. At this point, Keeney was the last women standing eligible for the Qualifier spot, so before the last two matches played, Keeney had won the coveted $500 entry into the WPBA Championships! Congratulations Nicole! We’ll all be routing for you in November!
Madhatter beat Keeney (7-1), which put Keeney in 3rd place and allowed Madhatter to challenge Ranola in the final match. Since this was a true double elimination format, Madhatter would need to beat Ranola in two sets of a race to 7. Ranola won the first set (7-5) which put Madhatter in 2nd place. Congratulations to Iris Ranola for the win – this makes 2 in a row for her!
12 women came back on Sunday to play for the free second chance event! Congratulations to Dawn Anderson for winning the hot seat, 1st place and $40, Kacie Ragen for 2nd and $30 and Krystal Edmondson for 3rd and $10!
The AWBT held a raffle for a beautiful J. Pechauer Custom Cue valued at $520! Congratulations to Jared Williams for winning the cue! Thanks to everyone for buying raffle tickets! We raised $218 for the AWBT points fund!
Thanks to Jimmy, Heather, Ryan and all the folks at Kolby’s! We LOVE your pool hall! If any of you haven’t been there, it’s definitely worth a visit! Their tables are always in terrific shape and the food is awesome!
